Guess on the "TLC" cost?

So I dropped of the IROC at the local shop Saturday. I asked them to look over every system as it is a 20 year old car with only 42k miles that did a lot of sitting and has some problems. I would just fix it myself but with grad school, the family and work I just don't have the tools or time. I want a tune up and alignment done at a minimum.

They started to look over it today and will finish up their inspection tomorrow. They already found some smaller items but nothing earth shattering yet.

Any guesses on the Over / Under on the total estimate? I already told them I probably won;t get everything done but want to know the overall condition as I have no idea what previous owners did.

Well...... if we are talking basic's:
plugs
wires
pcv
oil n filter
tranny n filter
air filter
couple hundred

If COMPLETE......
tires
brake fluid
o2 sensors
brake pads n rotors

it could REALLY add up!

Why not do it yourself?

What year iroc? It is probably pretty easy for a majority of the items.

02 Sensors? Â*

See if the rotors can be cut if you really want to do that. Â*Maybe it doesnt need brakes? Â*I guess if you want to spend the money. Â*

Most of this stuff could be done with a handful of us at someones house.

I've been driving it for the past year so it's not dead. It just could run better. Lots of small "nickel and dime" issues with it.

I asked them to look over every system as there are some I wouldn't be able to tell if they are good or not.

I'd love to have a day to properly do her right but my family takes first priority. The car will still be around in a few years -- when the boys are older they can help.

Now if you still have your show I'll be happy to bring it in when I hit 60k miles in a few years.

ok, guys, i need a list of exactly what you need done, emailed to me, al or ben. since we're in the gearing up mode, all projects will receive consideration. your car might not get picked for the first taping, but we may have room for it down the road. i've left the content up to al and ben, and of course we will sit down to discuss the projects before we start taping.

you do understand that you have to purchase whatever parts are needed for your projects, right?

88 Iroc Z TBI 305
Plugs. Wires. Perhaps rear drum brakes? And WHY THE F I GET CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WHEN CRUSING AT 70+!!!! (Error Code 32...Just replaced the EGR too)

Edit. Think the average guy would be one for swapping out a 305 TBI with a 454 (will supply engine and everything of course )

97 Camaro 3.8L. Have front brake pads to be installed, and should do a tune up pretty soon. May also be doing water pump or somethin on the belt.

Well the only surprise was I needed new brakes and calipers. Ouch.

They just said it needed a "major tuneup" and didn't have anything seriously wrong other than the rear brake calipers.

We'll see how much better it drives.
