fuel pump wiring

Ok,
im tired of flipping my fuel pump on and off using my camaro, and would like to wire it up to the ignition. i was wondering if this is a hard job? any way anyone can teach how how to do it myself? or if it should really be done right and left to the professionals. let me know. thanks

i'm sure there are plenty of people who know way better than me how to do it exactly, i could attain a wiring diagram and fax it or scan it up here, comes out crappy sometimes though. basically you need a wire coming from the ignition switch to the fuse box. it needs to be hot only with the ignition in the run position, maybe the start position too but i'm not sure. from the fuse box, i believe it would need to pass through a relay then head back to the pump/sending unit. i would wait for someone who knows 3rd gens to chime in.

haha you wouldnt believe...a few of my friends test drove my car and got halfway down the street and the car started sputtering. its cool knowing that im one of the only people who knows how to operate my car...but idk, flipping switches isnt my thing haha

yes, you'd want a relay type system, at least 30amps. Use proper size wiring, i'd say 12-14ga about. wire the pump to the battery, ground through the relay, then wire the coil of the relay to ground and other side to an IGN terminal in the fuse box. That case whenever the ign is on, itll have the pump on, if you want it to only pump when cranking or running, youd wire the one relay coil side to the oem fuel pump activation wire whch is by the drivers side firewall under the hood.

if i do it this way will the fuel pump be on when i like, half turn the ignition? sometimes i like to chill in my car and just listen to music

the first part of what i explained, yes, it will be on just when listenign to music etc.

to have it only when cranking or actually running, youd need to tap the fuel pump wirie in the oem harness. I am just not sure to what level you removed the factory wiring in your car. Since you say carburated, im assuming you converted it to that and cut out a majority of the wiring. Or do you say carb, and just have the oem CC quadrajet?

Regardless, you could do it the first way and then still install a switch between the ign terminal and the relay coil so you could turn it off if you desired, or just leave it on and have it function normally

This OPS will work. I prefer OE stuff. The one in my 93 4.3L K1500 would work fine but you need to find a pigtail too.

eh i think ill just bring it to the shop to get this done. its been a big problem in the past and stuff with wiring ill leave it to the professionals this time around. thanks guys.
