Nah I was talking to my mom I said I wanted to put the car up for sale, she said no, I was like ok but if my motor goes it goes up for sale, she said no, I said Ok if the motor blows we are going to build a 800hp motor she said no I said 750 hp motor she said "what ever" I think Im gonna start looking for potential sbc parts as a next motor cause a 100 shot on a bone stock 305 is gonna be a big problem
blowing an engine may seem cool, but it sucks when you realize your out of a car and now need to spend even more $. oh well.
You are still young, theres no rush to learn everything in one winter. When i was 15-16 i was into bicycles, i didnt care about cars. i was into freestyle and bmx. then 8 months before i turned 17, i got my 1st car, a '73 dodge coronet, which i actually wanted then, what did i know. I coudlnt even tell if it was a 2 or 4 Bbl carb, but over time i learned more and more. and a month after i turned 17, i got my 88 Trans am GTA. And i continued to learn. While i was in HS i did very few things on the car myself. Only towards the end of my senior year i really started getting involved with working on cars. A lot of people around here have older brothers or fathers that helped them out and got them into the hobby, but im one of the few that didnt have any parental persuasion. i did everything on my own from day one. My parents know nothing about cars. Hell, even my GF is starting to know alot about cars. When i first met her she liked cars but knew little, now shes got the Monte and is already making plans for heads cam and a supercharger, all of which she will help install. My point is...relax, ok, so maybe it wont get done for dyno day, but you time otherwise.

damn cams are devious little buggers.
it went right during a 2nd-3rd gear shift at about 2800rpms, just in normal driving. The oil and antifreeze went ALL over the road, cops finally came, then a tow truck, and the driver had to use 3 bags of speedy dry to clean up my mess... lol
The LS1, just went in my driveway, exact cause isnt proven yet, btu the motor will be out by mid april and ill known for sure then what happened. All i can see up through the shattered oil pan is that #1 rod seems to have let go, and the pan shattered, front engine cover shattered, and the explosion(yes there were flames, lol) also cracked the front corner of the aluminum block..so its a total loss.
ahhh, engine carnage!
when I tore down the 305 that was in my pick up, all 8 pistons had chunks missing from them
And Matt, I personally have been pretty busy and very tired the past few weeks, but when it gets nicer out and I'm not all tied up I'll help you out. It just gets kind of annoying when every other post made by you is asking people to help with your car. people wont even be talking about cars, but you'll chime in with it anyway. Just calm down. you dont need your car to be in one piece for a few years anyway, who cares if it sits with the motor torn apart for a few weeks. It will get done eventually. and as far as you running out of money, well, thats what you get for trying to build an LG4  . seriously though, you probably shouldn't have ordered nitrous for it, thats going to be a waste in my opinion.

i've watched and helped in a few cam swaps, i could probably do it on something non-computer controlled, but i dont know the first thing about ripping apart the damn computer. give me a real mechanical engine any day, other than that i'm lost.
melissa..i was hesitant to jump into fuel injection when i was buildign the Monte, but now that its over, i woudl think nothign of it. theres quite a bit to learn but not that bad, the tuning aspect is a different thing though, lol. Only thing different with computer controlled cars are really the intake manifold. The LS1s are different but nicer, you dont even have to remove the intake manifold to do a cam swap, just remove the valve covers, and unbolt the rockers i believe then turn the cam a few times and all the lifters pop up.
I could do a cam on a SBC any day of the week, but its just the work involved that can get difficult on a car thats 20something years old. rust takes over, bolts break, wires become brittle, etc.

i would help, but... i have this fear, a fear that ill mess up and then if something goes wrong, itll be my fault. Its a paranoia ive almost always had even though nothign has really gone wrong with stuff ive worked on. I was so paranoid that the 350 i completely rebuilt for my monte would be bad, that i bought a spare motor to start rebuilding to replace it. Well, the 1st 350 runs great, no smoke noises, or leaks. Even with the 383 i half built and swapped in, no mechanical problems, im just still hesitant to work on other peoples cars. If its something simple or a bolt-on part sure, but getting into engine/trans/rear internals... only on my personal cars.

Ive decided tomorrow i'll finally unbolt and remove my drivers side header completely and then just unbolt all but the last bolt on the passenger side. Then on monday ill crawl under and remove the passenger header and put the stock manifolds and cats back on.
ok, well both headers are unbolted, and the drivers side header and cat are removed. I just gotta drop the pass. header and cat tomorrow and then reinstall the stock manifolds and cats. I also took the MSD wires off and oem wires are going back on. Heres some more engine carnage.. my poor LS1...:missu:

the SS has a warranty until August 2006. its going to my old shop and my old boss is gonna take care of everything for me. The Denali has a warranty as well. They do come in handy...lol. Except when i blew the rear in the SS twice and that was a whole mess.

understandable..i dont wanna go into the motor untill after its out of warranty anyway because i no im going to blow something up before 11-2007 :)
when i blew my rear, the extended warranty company came and checked it out. i had lowering springs and a catback exhaust. The approved the new rear right away and noted down the mods in my history. When the rear went the second time 2 months later. The warranty company would not cover it due to their policy that the dealer who fixed it was responsible under their parts/labor warranty for like up to 6 months. So it got towed back to the first dealer. They looked at it and said it blew the 2nd time due to the car being "modified" and they voided their warranty. I was helpless, AND another dealer had it before and they said it blew the 2nd time due to poor workmanship and not be installed correctly. I ended up towign the car home, it sat 4 months and i bought a rear off ebay and instaleld it myself, no issues since. but anyways, my warranty comapny said in no way could my mods cause that damage(i put a piece of the carrier out through the rear cover) and they said the dealer was being retarted for voiding their warranty but they couldnt make them fix the car. I could have probably gotten away with getting the motor fixed with the shorty headers, but i wasn goign to risk it, especially since im so close to the end on my warranty, i had 5 year 50k miles, i'm at 5 years in august and 48k miles now. better safe than sorry.

theres a recent law saying that unless the dealer has proof that the mods caused the damage that they cannot deny you... definately look into that

The Moss-Magnuson Act: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/warranty.htm
- Justin
yeah, the moss-magnuson act came up while dealing with my denali. Ive read up on quite a bit of legal crap about warranties. The whole deallwith the rearend in my SS could have been solved, but to be honest i didnt trust that dealer with my car, even while we we talking to see what was gonna happen with my car, they parked it out in the front right by a main street(like 2 feet from the curb and it was forcasted to snow like 6+ inches that night, and they wouldnt move it.(plows, salt, etc) Thats why i towed it home. but anyways, i pad 300 shipped for a rear from ebay, it had 6k miles only and i sold off all the extra parts that came with it (calipers, rotors, springs, lcas, panhard, shocks, tq arm, e-brake cables, brake line) and made my $300 back.
With my SS now, i just want NO issues, i want the adjuster to come look at the car, approve the repair and write out a check to the shop for labor and a new GM crate engine.

Paul the reasons are: manpower, lack of tools, and that the new rear has no brakes so they all have to get swapped over. Now that I think about it, should I pick up some brake fluid??

If the axles have to be removed, then you will need diff fluid and gasket maker (Right Stuff).

Tru2Chevy
03-20-2006, 03:43 PM
I always use Right Stuff to make those gaskets, haven't had one leak yet. You'll need approx 1.5 quarts of fluid + the limited slip additive.

actually, i know their names now, i just like to piss the mod (if thats what he's calling himself these days) off.
Kasey. If you want, you can do the rear swap at my house, but its be in my driveway and i wouldnt really be able to help(ill be working on my SS) so have people come to help, lol, but i got all the tools. And yes you will have to pull the axles out since the new rear has no brake backing plates which will need to be swapped over from your current rear. You will need the diff fluid like justin said and any auto parts store will have a rear cover gasket for a 10 bolt, ive always had greta luck with standard gaskets, never tried the gasket maker stuff personally. You will not need brake fluid as long as you are careful and un-clip the hard metal lines from the rear before you drop it. that way the calipers will stay attached.
i still wanna see V for vandetta, but i dunno when ill get around to it.
And i still need to finish my header swap, today was wasted away which i wasnt too happy about.

My dad and my little brother saw V, and both of them really liked it. My brother just LOVES to not tell the ending to movies  , so he spoiled it for me already....
i say go see it anyway.......it's the whole movie that's good, not just any indiviual parts.

Yeah, I will, but I hate to know the ending of the movie.
ill probably see it this weekend

Did you mean tonight? I just saw this now :(
Plus I need Justin's stock torque arm, unless you've got one lying around from a late 3rd gen or a 4th gen
tomorow too, im home all the time, tonight is too late now i think.
what wrong with your TQ arm, just cut off/unbolt the 2 piece DS mount. i think i only have one from a 94 v6 camaro, or one from an 88 iroc.
**edit** post 2100 whoohoo... about 100 more and this thread will ahve more posts than the entire South jersey sub-forum...haha
Savage_Messiah

The 2 piece mount is welded on, I have nothing really to cut or grind it off
Tomorrow I have class from liek 12 till 5, so unless its at night after 5 i cant... ill talk to you at some point.
Edit: the other thing is tuning, thats another reason I was gonna go down there cuz bill's there... unless he's coming to the dyno day, then this could work. I'll ask him.
I'm pretty sure bill isnt allowed to tune anyone at the dyno day. :?
Savage_Messiah
03-20-2006, 08:34 PM
not on the dyno, i meant liek right before hand, it's just recalibrating for the gears.
Paul I may go there and do this tomorrow night, then swing down to Trenton friday night and have bill tune, then dyno saturday. That sounds like a plan.
ok, i should have my SS done before dark, and i'll push that outside to get picked up wed morning, so we could do your rear swap in the garage most likely. too bad my lift isnt in yet, lol.

I got out of my car back here at school and smelled burning tho... so I got the last laugh at that damn gasket.

My gf's sisters bf is also looking to do the same thing so im gonna talk to him and see. If anythign happens it would probably be located over the border in NY somewhere, unless i can find a small shop for a decent price/rent in NJ... i'll see what happens, i dunno, where my life is heading at this point, but thats one direction.

yeah, im here now, but im beat. after we finished the rear swap around 12, i had to go downtown and get my GFs monte running which died tonight.
I searched the web for shenanigans and really just came up with references to the movie "waiting". There is a bar/restairant in IL though. tomrrow ill search some more.
Hey kasey, maybe the rear isnt an LS1 since the brakes say 1995 ;-) ...lol
Savage_Messiah
03-22-2006, 01:47 AM
heh.
How was the monte?
i got to the parking lot, tried starting it again, and nothing...just kept cranking. battery had 12.5 volts so it couldnt have been a dead alternator that made it stall/die. i decided it must be ignition related. i thoguht ignition module at first. i decided to just make sure all connections were tight, i pushed on the coil wire, and the two connectors that go to the coil. i couldnt get to anything else really without tools to remove the distributor cover. i decided to try it again. this time it fired right up and stayed running. i drove it home and its in my garage now. Shes taking my truck for tomorrow and im gonna re-do all the connections at the coil and drive it more tomorrow and see if it happens again, but i think it was just a stupid loose wire. stupid tpi monte carlos...

did you know...
New York has a law forbidding blind men from driving automobiles.
In Macomb Illinois, its illegal far a car to impersonate a wolf.
In Tennessee, it is illegal to drive any car while asleep.
In Memphis, it is against the law fir a woman to drive a car unless there is a man either running or walking in front of the car waving a red flag to warn approaching motorists and pedestrians,
