Welp we put my PCM into Kirks car and it ran better then his current tune. We swapped coil packs and still nothing. Im out of guesses. Its got to be the harness.

sorry pal i dont feel like reading through all the posts... whats your exact spark problem.. your getting fuel pulse but just no spark? no spark at every cyl.. might sound dumb but im not sure how the harness was made have you double checked for and loose grounds..?

Grounds checked
There are 3 grounds. Harness grounds to the back of the pass head. Then there is the 4ga wire that grounds the block on the pass side to the frame.
Then there is the stock LS1 copper strap that is grounded to the K member on the driver side.
All three were checked with a test light.
We are getting power TO the coils. That was checked.
Injectors are firing, you can smell the fuel in the exhaust and on the plugs.
Fuel pressure is 50psi+

Adam and Matt brought up that the ECM might need to be grounded? But I dont see that in the instructions or ever heard of the ECM needing to be grounded. But then nothing would work if it indeed needed to be grounded.

Im lost.

your getting power to the coils.. just no spark?did you test for spark direct off the coil?

BigAls87Z28

correct. We put Kirk's coil pack on my car, plugged it in, and checked for spark...nothing.

what tells the PCM to trigger the spark on ls1's... crank sensor?

Yes, and I replaced that last night.

Al, just did some searching. Check this wire, the guy claims its a common error.

Very plausable. Thats the second thread Ive seen with that very same problem.
The harnes only came with 2 power wires, 1 pink for 12v switched, and 1 orange for contsant 12v.

What did you connect them to?
I actually had a similar problem with my 73 Camaro when I got it. The wire the distributor was connected to was not hot during crank, may not the same but similar

also found this, page 11 discusses the harness wire stuff. Just throwing whatever I find at you in hopes one of them has the answer

http://www.blackfbody.com/media/LS1_Engine_Kit.pdf

also, i read that the racks that the coil packs bolt on to are side specific. if they were off, then try swapping them to the other side. i think its a white harness

KirkEvil

the racks and harness are not side specific. I had mine totally disassembled then mixed together

We spliced them into wires under the dash. Adam and I checked to make sure that they wer 12v switched and 12v hot. I guess we will have to go over that again.

Yeah Al, check that out - the pink and purple wires off the ignition switch are hot at different times. I know when we swapped the TPI into my car I had to make sure that certain wires were hot in Bulb Check, Run, and Crank, and some had to be hot only in Run. Good luck getting her fired up!

Well boys and girls the car starts. But because a certain safety risks i will not be making it to the nats

Nah, just posted that while driving.
The coils were hooked up to 12v switched, but not to 12v crank. Well, we fixed that and it fired up.

Happy the problem was solved before you threw more $ at it. Sucks you won't make it to the Nats but better you not rush the final things on the Camaro.

Just remembered, what is your rear end gear ratio? We were too wrapped up in the engine starting issue for me to change it in HPTuners. Regardless, a final flash should be done to make sure everything is where it should be.

If you had a factory harness modified you would have had no fuel either and probably would have made troubleshooting either. Factory powers the coils and injectors from the same 12v wire

the speartech harness has 4 new fuses. one is for constant 12v to the pcm and the other 3 are keyed hot. one being injectors/ignition. this was throwing me off because we were getting fuel vapor out the collectors and intake but no spark. thats why i ruled that circuit out as the issue. still a little confused but **** it, she makes loud noises now

SO Speartech uses one fuse for the coils and injectors? That wouldnt make sense that you would get fuel and no spark then unless the PCM was seeing residiual RPM after you stopped cranking and pulsed the injectors for a short period of time. What are all 4 fuses?

Its mind-boggling, but it works.

sweetbmxrider
10-22-2010, 07:24 AM
the one is 12 volt constant for pcm, then 3 key on fuses for injectors/coils, o2 heaters, and something else....

Well, I have put a stop on it now to be honest. Lack of daylight and lack of heat, along with holiday season coming, I will resume progress in the late winter, early spring.
