Whats with Tony this year and the white trash look. I think he's obnoxious and was glad to see Kurt and Ryan shut him out.

All the Hendricks horses and all of his men, couldn't put together another Daytona win(sorry Humpty Dumpty). I really thought they had this dialed in, but NONE of the Hendrick cars was able to pull out and stay in front of the TOYOTA'S. Glad to see a TOYOTA didn't win the 50th Great American Race, but Chevy got their A S S's kicked. How many years have we been working on our V/8's, and along comes TOYOTA, and in one year brings in an engine that looks like it was putting down a lot more horsepower. Will have to wait and see what the other tracks produce.

that was a perfect ending for 2 team mates. pushing each other to the front like that. to bad all JR'S team mates were way back or behind the wall so he had no help at all. his car was a top 4 car at best today but he ended 9th.

this was probably one of the more boring 500's i've watched over the years. I fell asleep from lap 60 to about 140. I didn't seem too miss all too much, Kyle Busch was leading when I knocked out and still when I woke up. And then Gordon makes the dreaded left turn and I got bummed. Oh well, glad to see Ryan Newman back in victory lane though. They've worked their asses off for a while now.

I hope to see pics of what happened to Gordon's car. I'm surprised that even with reinforcement they would still manage to bend a front control arm mount.

Gordon blamed it on the suspension setup of the Car of Tomorrow (Today?) at the restricter plate tracks, with everyone setting the cars to be on the bumpstops.

Their was to much camber in the right front that caused the front control arm to bend. Once it gets to be to much it will bend thats why they try to keep the car on the loose side so that doesnt happen. If that didnt happen gordons car was a top 3 car. He was running against 2 team mates by him self and was still cruising with them.

That was really boring. So, the Car Of Tomorrow, it goes 30mph slower, doesnt flip over, doesnt crash all the time, and doesnt turn right. What the point of watching nascar now? Really, what IS the point? With the new car, they're all the same!

At least Dodge finished in 6 of the top 8 and all but three of the Dodges finished in the top 15.

When NASCAR was in the '80's, you had Chevy-Pontiac-Olds-Buick-Plymouth-Dodge-Ford-Mercury models running around. All of these cars had the exterior body styles of the STOCK car design, and you could root for your brand because you could pick out those models from a distance. Now the only thing that separates them is the decal on the front grills. One day it may even come down to a company making 43 identical race cars, and you pick a number out of a hat and that's your car! They did it that way with the IROC cars, they were ALL built by a company near Tinton Falls, and the drivers were given their cars by random.

Yea, I miss they days when they essentially stuck an airdam on the nose and a spoiler on the back of a stock body, dropped it on a tube frame, and went to town.

It wasn't until the late 90's that Nascar really started messing with factory designs. When GM redesigned the Monte Carlo and submitted it to Nascar, it would have dominated, but Nascar changed so much to equal it out. Now they don't have to worry about that anymore. The nose is about the only difference on any of the cars they drive.

I think the IROC cars are still like that. Those races are a lot of fun to watch. The best was like two years ago when Kinser barrel rolled his car on the back stretch, and landed right side up!

You're right about the nascar cars too. They used to be factory backed and partially engineered cars, and that's what started the "race on Sunday, buy on Monday" saying. Whatever manufacturer won Sunday's race, people would go out and buy on Monday. Now all the cars are the exact same car! I think manufacturers still have a hand in the engine development, but I'm not 100% sure with the new rules. But the cars themselves are identical. I personally think it sucks. You're only routing for a driver now, not a manufacturer. I think it's more fun to watch the truck races now. At least they still go fast lol

Plus a lot of the attraction is the fact that NASCAR does ALLOW these good ole boys to BANG and SLAM their trucks around. It's like the before NASCAR started slappings fines for anybody that was too aggressive or a bad sport. What would they think of Earnhardt Sr. TODAY, if he gave someone the number "1" finger after they screwed him up a bit. When you watched the Budweiser Shootout, EVERYBODY was in one giant pack going around. I don't think it's much about skill, it has a lot to do with LUCK and who's gonna PUSH YOU, and avoiding THE BIG ONE!

The my two head tech's are massive NASCAR guys. They were sure that Toyota was gunna win since they seem to have a better chassis program this year. One likes Jr, the other Gordon. Watching the crap on Friday at work bored the everloving ***** out of me. Im glad that Toyota didnt win, thats all.

When I started watching they had Chevy,Buick,Olds,Pontiac and Fords running...I liked it when the teams used to argue with NASCAR because the Poncho's had more downforce on the nose, the Ford's had more on the rear, etc. etc. If I want cookie cutter cars I'll watch IRL or ChampCar. When Earnhardt SR. was running, you could spin a guy out..."rubbin' is racing" now it gets you a fine. I'm also unhappy with the "sanitization" of NASCAR. It was started by a bunch of shine runners. Today they're trying to make it squeaky clean like Disney. Guys get fined points and money for what they say in the press....WTF?

Right. I like how people complain the drivers today have no personality like the old days, but when Tony S punches some guy he is bad. LOL, pick a side!

Bring back Harry Gant, in the Skoal Oldmobile!

Spoken like someone who watches hockey just for the fights!

I actually thought it was a great race. There was a lot of movement throughout the field, and the finish was AMAZING! I'm a Tony Stewart fan (Quite a bit of bashing going on here, but I do agree that he needs a haircut...or just go mullet!) and I knew that IF a Toyota was going to win the Daytona 500 for the first time in NASCAR history, he was going to be driving it. But if he had to lose, that was one heel of a way to have it happen. Very awesome finish. Plus, I was fortunate enough to get a new TV the day before. Not LCD or plasma or anything crazy like that, but much bigger and clearer than my old one...just in time for the redneck superbowl!

Cold and raining outside, fire going inside, JD and Coke in my hand while I watch The Great American Race in my favorite chair...perfect day.
