another gas price thread

only this one is a bit more optimistic...

i wanna see what everyone here is doing to combat the high gas prices? i'll start

-on weekends, i commute back home with a neighbor and we switch off every other week. since school is about 65 miles away and my car gets about 20mpg, i save about $20 every time i don't drive home. not to mention i get to use my dad's car on weekends which gets better gas mileage than mine
- i started using more rutgers transportation once i'm at school. since i know all the parking lots at school where they don't ticket often, i used to drive to class. now i just go straight to the commuter lot and use it again only when i'm leaving after class.
-i got a bicycle to use once it warms up
-haven't been driving my camaro

of course in addition to other little things here and there, what about you all?

I've been working more and more from home. That way I don't have to commute, and if I have to go to the office, I make sure its for a few days worth of work. Its only a 20 minute drive, but going there twice a week instead of 5x really saves me some money.

that's funny.. my camaro gets better gas mileage than my jeep, so joy rides are necessary

Well, I haven't driven the Monte all winter, so that's saves me $$. I also cut way back on joyrides with the kids, and when my wife has to work, we carpool, so we only use one car. So far, it's helped, but I spent $40 today on gas and it didn't even fill my Jeep!

Most of my commute (~16 miles each way) is highway, and not during rush hour ( I'm on the road from ~3:15 - 3:45pm and then ~12:00 - 12:20am), so I just try to keep to relatively sane speeds on the highway, and I always use the cruise control. I manage to average 16-18 mpg in my lifted Cherokee.

I removed my Yakima rack & rails to cut down on wind resistance, and I also keep the BFG ATs inflated to 40 psi on the street.
