Custom G8 Intake - New Pics
Got some daytime pics with the cellphone.
Big props to UBG for helping getting all the aluminum cut and j0n for assorted part sourcing and some construction assistance
I took the car out for a quick test run and the results speak for themselves. The engine really has a nice growl to it now.
NEW 0-60 time from 10/7/08 - 4.55 sec.
0-60 - 4.7 sec with myself and a 200lb friend riding shotgun. T/C On in drive. Car was shaking the tires in first and chirped second slowing things down a bit. Should have had the T/C off but oh well. Overall I could tell the car was a lot stronger and it never lost traction in first gear like this. Everything cost me a little over a $100 to do.
IAT Temp Diff between ambient: Before - ~13 deg, After - ~6-8 deg.
MAF grams/sec at WOT: Before - ~280, After - ~336

Actually no home depot parts here. I sourced some 3.5" and 4" aluminum tubing, silicone couplers in various sizes and shapes from ebay, and finished it off with a nice K&N air filter.

Now all you need is a few, say three or four to start off with, gauges!

Absolutely! I'll even throw in a shift light for good measure...even though it's an auto

Awesome! Very cool man. Are you gunna build a box around the filter to isolate it?

At some point I will but this will do for now. I have some sheet metal and the insulation material so I can mess with it. There is a very little bit of aluminum used and it was used just to connect the soft silicone pieces together. The temps were def. down from the stocker so I'm on my way. I really could justify spending $300+ on an intake setup which looks just about the same as what I did.

Is it something you can quick swap back the stock air box? I would be interested in seeing a side by side dyno comparison on that. I am sure you picked up a bunch over the stock air box w/ silly straw air silencer. lol

Look great Brian. You've peaked my interest. How much do you have invested?

Yea I could swap back in prob under 5 min.
Featherburner : Maybe just about $150 which could have been done a bit cheaper but I had to order diff. parts which cost me shipping.
