thats better then when i had my trans am. i went to an auto part store for a brake line. and had 3 people there try and tell me that my car was a brittish car and that they didnt sell brake lines for brittish cars there. so after 10 or so minutes of trying to convince them that the pontiac firebird trans am was an american car i gave up and said fine how about a brake line for a chevy camaro. in which they then tried to tell me that it wouldnt work on my car at which point i told them to just show me the brake line and i tool them out to my car screwed it into place. and was like wtf happened to it not working looks like it works to me. so went back inside to pay for it and had them look up the part # and sure enough the same part # was listed for the pontiac firebird trans am. at that point they all shut up and i have yet to return to that store.

but then again there arnt any auto part stores worth going to what ever happened to the days where you went to one and they knew what you needed even if you didnt. now days if they cant find it on their computer they asume it doesnt exist doesnt matter if you have the old broken one in your hand or not. lol

I had some freeze dried 70's throwback come up to me when I was filling the 67 Camaro at a gas station and said, "whoa, I had a mustang exactly like that". Looking back I should have asked him if his Mustang had Chevy badging too.

He won't race the car at the track because a corvette is a "cruiser" car and not a grad car.

Anyway-who was the one that brought this thread back from the dead.

QFT. what is it these days? it's like they know everything and you know nothing...

anyway, if it's someone i care about i try to educate them. that might be in finding my source in a book, magazine or online. sometimes multiple sources are needed to satisfy some people.

while i was selling cars, a shirt-tailed relative called me out of the blue and asked me what her car was worth. since the #1 used car buyer was sitting right next to me, i put her on hold and asked him what he thought. he gave me a number. when i picked the phone back up and told her the number, she said "are you sure you know what you are doing?" apparently, she went to trade her car in and the guy low-balled her trade-in just to see what he could get her to fall for. i told her to stop the proceedings immediately and head on over to my place of employment. she hung up and finished the deal there, accepting his low-ball and thinking i was out of my mind, even after i told her i talked with the buyer personally and he would write a check for the amount he told me, all she had to do was show up. she didn't even need to buy a car there, since the used car buyer is not an employee of the dealership.

she ended up being out almost $8,000, between the raping on her trade-in and the car she bought. i said nothing more to her about it, since she was happily drifting on the ether of a new car... after all, it's only money.

for bringing this back.

and it helps if you think like the clerk at XXinsert auto parts store nameXX. you know, like you're 15 and your major worries are how many pimples you have and who you're going to take to the formal and if she will actually go with you, not the customer standing in front of you who probably has 20 times your experience with cars. no, just ignore that and ask him, with the utmost control over your voice so it doesn't crack and creak in the middle of a sentence again, what year, make and model car this is for... in that order, please, so i don't get confused. and, if you are thinking like that, then you know your car is in the computer as a 1989 pontiac firebird, trans am with the 305 motor (it's a manual transmission and they didn't come from the factory with the 350 and a manual). but don't tell him any of that, as it might be too much for his pea-brain to think about...
