I made this poll to see if member had a specific "vision" of where they wanted their car to be. Adding a stereo and leaving all else stock, is just fine, and there are no worries about needing service while out on a long trip. Going balls to the wall is a wonderful option too. But there are serious drawbacks too, and for street use, especially if used for long trips, where a breakdown might occur.

I will enjoy it from that point on as a competent street car I can take on vacation and other trips and not worry about service. Those of you who have serious race machines probably have backup cars for when the fbody brakes down. And that is common if you go to the strip often.

.

Push your car to the max? Its a F-body. I didnt buy it to put along doing the speed limit. I bought it to see how fast I can go and make it look and sound as bad ass as possible!! If you build your car right it wont break!! It will be just as reliable or even better then when it was stock. The thing that breaks built cars is missing gears, N20 Backfires, bad tunes, or just pushing more power then what the motor can handle! No matter what you do to your car it will break!! If you leave it stock it will break and if you build it its going to break.

Any kind of car can break down on a trip! My 2008 Minivan broke down on the way to Virginia. The TRanny went out on it! It had 16,000 miles on it! I wouldnt call that a race machine and it has never been to the race track!

My 2002 T/A has yet to leave me stranded. Only 3 things have broke on it since I purchased it in 2004. The headlight motor, the driver window motor, and the Rear end. I was still able to drive the car 100 plus miles back from the track after the rear broke. Since then I have been to the track 10-15 times and never had a problem with it again. It is a basic bolt on car that has gone on long trips several times. It has 92,000 miles on it. I enjoy beating the crap out of the car at the track one week and taking a road trip in it to Va Beach the next week!! Like I said before I didnt buy a T/A to baby it.

I have backup cars not because I want one in case my T/A or Firehawk breaks but because I only drive my F-bodies on nice days and pretty much on the weekends.

There is no option for going balls to the wall and letting a shop do the work! Thats probably were I would be. I dont feel like pulling my motor and dropping a 402 in my car on my dads driveway. I would rather pay a shop some cash to do it for me! It was differant in the Navy when we had the use of the base lifts at the hobbie shops.

See, now I'm the complete opposite of you. My car is never "done". When I bought it, it was completely stock. I took it to the track, it ran 13's. Well after running 13's for half a season I wanted it to run 12's, well after a season of running 12's, it now runs 11's....

So what level would that put me in?

yeah scott i read the question wrong....

im simple, i dont need an all out 10 second track car....i wouldnt mind it but a mild bolt on street car that can hit the track is pretty much where its at for me.

my priorities are more towards open air and t-top cruising

At this point I just want suspension, I don't need to be the fastest or the baddest. Plus I plan to buy a replacement at some point

I'm in the middle with just doing the simpler bolt ons like headers, lid, ported TB, cat-back, trailer hitch. If I were to keep the car I'd be looking at a supercharger for more power/fun.

Other then stereo, I think my goal is all of the above. I'd say I have a fast streetable car. I can cruise, do shows - car isn't really nice enough to win big consistently, car now is now in need of paint work. I have won a a few trophies over the years, it does raise a few eyebrows with the LT1 guys! Fast enough to go to the track and have fun in the bracket or 10.0 index classes.

I do all my own work with the excep the machine work on the block and bought heads already built. Only shops the car has been in since the factory warranty ended has been Mufflex to do the custom exhaust and Intercooler piping, and then JSP and Kat worked on a tuning issue.

1) Build it
2) Race it
3) Break it
4) Repeat!!!
