You have comp & coll on a 70 Nova through NJM? IMO you might want to rethink that for a true agree value policy.

High Point still doesn't understand a camaro is a performance car so I am happy with that. Only 600 for six months. No checks back though

Actually I checked when I got home from work. I only have collision on the Nova. Comp didn't make sense because of the cost and potential return. The car is not even on the road really, so its kinda pointless to have it insured at all. Hopefully this winter I'll get it finished.

I did talk to Condon&Skully or one of the classic insurers and had a quote of $450 for an agreed upon value of $20K, but that was about 3 years ago. That's the only way I would insure it when its done, agreed upon value. I got too much blood, sweat, tears and $$$ into it to have some ins. co. cut me check for $1,000 based on some blue book guide in the event of a total loss.

Comp is fire & theft - that is what you need if the car is home-bound. Not too many collisons in the garage. IMO you should reconsider.

I pay $362 to Hagerty $20k a/v, no deductibles for the 77Z. The car falls under their 'modified' scale, so i might guess your would be similar in $$.

They don't provide online quotes, due to the large number of people who aren't eligible to join. You basically can only get a policy from NJM if you work for the state, or a company who is a member of the NJ Business and Industry Assoc. (NJBIA). I think there are a few other ways, but I haven't worked there since the summer of '02, so I forget.

If you can believe it, almost had it on the road about 2 years ago, so I just put it on the policy so in the event I got it done (in the middle of the night on a Sunday), I could immediately take it for its maiden voyage. Got the special tags, special registration (collector car status) and then I got distracted and never quite finished. But I didn't want to loose/surrender the plates, which is the only way I could take it off the policy. So I kept it registered/insured, because maybe one day I'll get it done......and when I do I'll get the agreed upon value.

Did you have to provide all kinds of pictures for the agreed upon value? Did they ask you about racing it at all? Are there any restrictions in mileage?

Chris

I have my 70 SS396 insured for $40K agreed policy with $300K full coverage for $336 a year. Most classic insurance will limit your miles but the collector tags limit it anyway. I think my limit is 3000 miles a year. The insurance company is called MK Insurance and they basically sub it out to see what insurance company will cover it best.

Chris, I had to provide a few pics and a rundown of what is in the car - I was honest and that is why my car is considered 'modified' vs 'stock', which bumped it up a bit, but I wanted no troubles if I ever need to submit a claim.

Hagerty policy clearly states it is covered on the way to the track, at the track but not on the track itself. Rollcage is a deal breaker for many companies - do you have one? I think hagerty is a no on cages, I'd have to poke through some old threads to see who is ok with a cage.

You may also get reduced premium if the car is not roadworthy. You should ask.

My hagerty liability is also $300k per acc to match my DD coverage, so that upped my cost a bit. I did have to show them proof of a DD for each driver in the house and proof of my extended coverage. I have zero limitations on the insurance except the racing clause. I asked if I could take it on power tour and they said 'enjoy'.

The mileage isn't a deal breaker, heck my firechicken barely sees 5000 a year so my Nova would be lucky to see half that.

The car does have an 8-pt bar, so that could be problematic. Don't devote any time to the research on old threads. When I get closer I'll dig deeper. I do remember the cage and "participation in timed events" being a deal killer with Grundy's I think. I agree on the honesty part, I would hate to need the insurance for some reason and then be denied because I wasn't forthcoming. Not worth it to go that route.

Yeah, it's not worth messing around with declaring the vehicle if it leaves the door open for them not to pay out a claim. Most companies will ask if it's all stock, modified to some extent, set up for racing.

Its not only NJM, they pretty much all do it. I had them when i first got my license, got into an accident and they dropped both my parents and I. 1st and last accident im now 31 w/ a crystal clear license...ill stick with USAA.

State Farm sends me some nice Xmas money each year as well.

All said and done, I'm right under $2500 with full coverage on the Bird, G8, and wife's Lexus. Having good luck and no points helps though.

USAA buries other insurance companies. Some of them wouldn't bother giving me a quote when they heard that USAA was in the running.

Some form of government service I believe. You don't have to be Army/Marines/Navy/AF exclusively. I think Coast Guard, USMMA, and some others count.
