So it works fine as long as it's plugged in, but as soon as you unplug it the screen freezes up?
Will it continue playing music when you unplug it, or does that stop too?
Also, what generation / model is it?

You have to eject the ipod from itunes or else the screen can freeze, or, even worst, you can lose all your music on it.
Just hit control+e when itunes is open to eject it.

I would re-format it and start again. That's what I had to do when this happened to my ipod.

Mine did the same thing (well, the screen freezing, looked all garbled). It still clicked and whatnot and I could change music, just had no idea wtf I was changing it to. Try reseting it, search ask.com for "resetting ipod". Good luck.

well if you end up chucking that one and want another nano for cheap I have a 2nd gen 4GB nano in silver that's just collecting dust. Looks brand new and has been in a leather case with a screen protector on it it's whole life. ZUNE ftw!
