Finally got my new rear struts today after much procrastination...and i found some coil spring helpers on the shelf at work too. damn things have been sitting there for years, so my boss just said to take them no charge. sweet. anyway heres pictures, anyone know if i should put those helpers on in a different way to make it stiffer or does that look ok?

The suspension feels noticeably tighter in the rear both when driving and when i just push down on it. Any ideas for improvement? i can move the pieces anywhere around the spring so if theyd be better in a different place, let me know. i know nothing of suspensions

are you using those spacers because your rear springs are worn out or because you want to lift it up? i learned in my steering and suspension class that there are two things a should never, ever do to automotive suspension springs. one is cut them and the other is to use spacers. of course there are plenty of smacks that will say i cut mine no problem, i used spacers and they work great. yes it can be done but shouldnt be. when you cut a coil spring you change the spring rate, the properties of teh spring and if you dont recover with polymer paint, will expose the spring to rust and that is bad. as for the spacers, they cause stress points at specific spots on the spring and that isnt good either. wherever the spacer touches the spring, that area will receive more stress and wear than the rest of the spring and could eventually fail (ie. break). they should be used temporarily at best, there like spare tires.

well put, but you forgot one other thing you should never do to springs....heat them up. A lot of people torch their springs to lower their car. It messes up the rate and it also makes the spring metal much weaker and more prone to failure.

However, he is just trying to get his car to hook up better as cost effectively as possible. I doubt he'll run around with those things in place all the time...at least I hope he wont.

lowering springs = ~$180

Me = poor

rear springs stiffer = better traction off the line on a FWD car

cheap = win

It actually leveled out the car, the rear sagged. Most GP's do sag in the rear.

remeber, his car is wrong wheel drive. he has to do everything wrong to get it to hook right :P

they ran the same trap speed & I'll be there with my stuff so should be able to tweak his timing a bit more if he can somehow hook he'll give a good fight.
